Right around the year 1998 Venezuela started to face many changes, many people started to leave the country. When I was dating Rafael, who is now my husband, we decided that we were going to emigrate and the options we had were either Australia or Canada. We chose Canada.

One day while browsing for businesses for the company I worked for, I met a Venezuelan living in Fort McMurray online. Once I began talking with her, she would tell me, “It’s a small town, cold, it’s very cold.” I would respond, “You’re crazy! Why did you go to Fort McMurray? I would never move there.” Now here I am three years later.
